"The Catharsis" - the tragedy or the healing
Peter Lagutin

17.10.2012 - 20.01.2013

Painter Peter Lagutin represents the generation of artists who have confronted with the impositions of socialist realism in his own way.

His eager claim for individuality opposite the established patterns remains captured in paintings, which suggest metaphysical reflections, for example, from a biblical symbolism inconceivable.

Furthermore, his inconformity is reflected in his leaning towards references from the European avant-garde such as surrealism.

Peter Lagutin was born in 1953 in Saint Petersburg. In 1978 he graduated from the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.Repin, the Academy of Fine Arts, classes of Prof. V. Oreshnikov. Since 1978 he took part in numerous art exhibitions in Russia and abroad. Since 1983 he is a member of the Union of Artists of Russia. Since 1990 he is a member of the Art Association "Lavr Art Centre".

His works are kept in the museums of Russia and also in private collections in Japan, Canada, France, America, Belgium, Sweden and Germany.
